Education Specialist

Job Title: Education Specialist – Full-time, 40 hrs./week with generous benefits; flexible workplace. Starting pay: $24.50/hour.

Position Summary

The KWF Education Program is one of the pillars of our organization, providing accessible information to local communities and visitors, alongside science-based and watershed stewardship programs. The Education Specialist will coordinate KWF’s current educational programs and work collaboratively to advance the organization’s mission and vision. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include educational curriculum development, lesson planning and delivery (in classroom and outdoor settings), proposal and project development, grant writing, participation in regional partnerships, managing support staff, and completing grant and contract reporting/documentation.


Position Workload Allocation

  • 40%: Managing KWF’s Adopt-A-Stream program
  • 30%: Managing KWF’s Summer Camp
  • 20%: Program and new project development
  • 10%: Other duties, including outreach, staff training, and cross-program assistance

Qualifications: Required and Desired

  • BA/BS degree in education and/or an environmental field – Desired
  • 1–3 years professional experience educating youth – Desired
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental curriculum – Desired
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills – Required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to manage diverse classrooms and age ranges – Required
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders – Required
  • Knowledge of basic outdoor skills, including being “bear aware” in bear country – Required
  • Familiarity with outdoor locations across the Kenai Peninsula suitable for youth activities – Desired
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record – Required

Work Environment

KWF staff work in a highly collaborative setting with a diverse range of partners, supporters, and community members. The Education Specialist is expected to work independently, take initiative, and communicate both technical and non-technical information effectively to a variety of audiences.
